Finally after a long time, the first Alpha test version is finished. Test? What does Alpha means? Why?
Well, this isn't a final or stable release, it's not even complete. The Alpha contains only principal components like the core engine, basic content components etc, and it must not be used on production sites, since it might have serious problems and no support is given by MemHT.com. The reason why an Alpha version is released is because the principal components need tests before further development. Why the Alpha release doesn't contain all features?
As first, because without tests i cannot be sure i'm working on the right direction. There could be a serious flaw that would need important core changes, forcing me to redevelop the same components... waisting my time.
Will the final release have all standard features like MemHT 4 did?
Yes. MemHT 5 will have all features MemHT 4 did and more. The basic MemHT 5 package will be pretty simple and contain almost no additional plugins, while other components will be available in the download section. I said more because the new engine will allow the development of almost any kind of plugin or extension.
When will the final MemHT 5 version be released?
This depends mainly on the number of problems the Alpha and Beta test releases will have, your feedback and the help i'll receive in the development and translations.
Can i update my MemHT 4 to MemHT 5 Alpha?
No, you can't. I'll create a converter in the Beta or maybe in the final release only.
What about old addons/plugins and templates? Will they be compatible with MemHT 5?
I'm affraid they will not be compatible. The new engine is completely different and old components will need some modification. We'll talk about later. What kind of tests should i perform on the Alpha?
As first, create articles, blog posts, pages, blocks, comments, dynamic SEO urls and any kind of content you can, in your language (using your alphabet if it's not latin). Test the html input and engine security, do all tests you can immagine, performance benchmarks etc.
I found a problem - bug - flaw, where should i report it?
Any kind of problems should be reported HERE. Create your own thread with the title prefix [MemHT 5 Alpha PROBLEM] and write as much information as you can.
Minimal information should be provided:
- PHP and MySQL versions.
- OS
- Problem / error text (check Administration > Events > Errors)
- Screenshots (Attach images in the forum or use free image upload services like tinypic.com)
